WCHA receives funding for
new Odin View senior apartments

The Westmoreland County Housing Authority (WCHA) is pleased to announce that more quality housing is on the horizon for seniors in Westmoreland County.

On April 12th, Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) announced the award of a tax credit allocation for the development of Odin View Apartments. This 4-story, 47-unit senior housing complex will be located on South Greengate Road in Hempfield Township, adjacent to the authority's acclaimed South Greengate Commons senior apartment building.

WCHA Executive Director Michael L. Washowich stated, "Obviously, WCHA is humbled and honored to receive this tax credit award and thrilled that one day in the near future many deserving Westmoreland County seniors will be able to call Odin View their home!"

"I want to thank PHFA, WCHA Board members, the WCHA development team, Westmoreland County Commissioners Gina Cerilli, Ted Kopas and Charles Anderson, state Senators Jim Brewster and Kim Ward, state Representative Justin Walsh, Hempfield Township officials and our senior residents of the county for their unwavering support," he said. "It has always been a vision of ours to further develop and expand our campus to include additional senior housing to benefit those 62 years of age and older in this county."

Daniel J. Wukich, chairman of the WCHA Board of Commissioners, stated, "This project is truly an example of a public-private partnership that works. Congratulations to the WCHA development team and the county's seniors."

According to Washowich, the completion of Odin View is the next crucial component of WCHA's vision for its South Greengate campus. Odin View has been carefully designed to integrate with the authority's administrative office and South Greengate Commons, creating a unique sense of place and community. Once completed, WCHA's campus will have experienced approximately $30 million in development and rehabilitation efforts in the past 5 years.

"The location provides convenient access to community amenities as it is near the Route 30 corridor. The Odin View site will include public transportation, easy access to health and retail stores, home health agencies and medical facilities," he explained. "Odin View will offer a complete menu of supportive services tailored to meet the specific needs of the residents."

WCHA has established strong partnerships with American Healthcare Group (AHG), Senior LIFE, Westmoreland County Area Agency on Aging, Seton Hill University, among others. Through these partnerships, residents will receive healthcare, nutrition, transportation, fitness, financial and education services on site.

Washowich added, "WCHA's senior campus, consisting of Odin View Apartments and South Greengate Commons, will serve as the home for county seniors for years to come."

Construction of Odin View Apartments is to begin next year.
