Family Self Sufficiency

Do you want a BRIGHTER future? Enroll in the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program.

The FSS program is offered only to Section 8 tenants and Public Housing residents who receive rent assistance through the Westmoreland County Housing Authority. It is a five year or less program that assist tenants/residents in obtaining full-time employment while increasing their earning potential and independence from welfare cash.

What are the BENEFITS of the FSS program?

Case Management: When an individual/family enrolls in the FSS program, they are assigned a Case Manager. The Case Manager will establish education and/or employment goals with them. The individual and/or family will be connected with service providers and resources that will enable them to reach their educational, training, and/or employment goals.

Escrow/Savings Account: When a FSS family has an increase in rent due to an increase in earned income, the Housing Authority establishes a savings account for the family. The savings account is paid to the family upon successful completion of their education and employment goals. The family must maintain independence from welfare cash for twelve months prior to completing the FSS program.

If you would like more information on the FSS program, please call WCHA and dial extension 3048 for the FSS Coordinator.
